Born in USA: “Mother’s land” Bangladesh!
December 9th, 2009Yes, I mean “MOTHER’S LAND” Bangladesh and not “motherland”! Last week, I was talking with one of my close friends in the west coast (California) and during our conversation, he mentioned of some troubling stories of suppressed pains among many Bangladeshi parents and of their helpless “indecision and frustrations” on the future of their grown up US born children .He said, “Most of the marriages of their US born children, within as well as outside parent’s preferred Deshi community have fallen apart in less than 2 years. Parents have now become deeply concerned and their fears on the future family ties and marriages of their beloved children are growing. This fear is probably real that could be engulfing many Bangladeshi parents here in US, Canada, U.K and Australia”. I agreed!

November 18th, 2009We celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on the 10th of Zul- Hijja as a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah. God appeared in a dream to Ibrahim (PBUH) and told him to sacrifice his most beloved (son Isma’il). When his son was old enough to walk with him, Ibrahim said: “0 my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. Tell me what you think”. He replied, “Father, do as you are bidden. Allah willing, you shall find me faithful” (Sura Al Saffat: 37.100-102). The father and his beloved son walked side by side. A young boy possessed forbearance and the old man (Prophet Ibrahim) was full of determination and spirit to complete submission to Allah. Their purpose was to carry out the orders of their God. Nothing else was dearer to them than the service to Allah.
